305 to 307 swap

I came across a really good deal on a high output 307. It makes about 330 horsepower and has 10 compression. My 305 is very old and worn out do you think this would be a good swap. Would I have trouble finding headers for it or attaching it to a 700r4. My car is an 87 z28. I know i will at least need a flex plate to make it attach to the two piece rear main seal.

Since all 307's from the factory were base V8's with 2 bbl carbs, in order for it to be "high output", it would have to completely redone - heads, cam, etc.

Heads are the wild card - really need to know which ones it has on it.

Flexplate is a piece of cake - '83-'85 f-body V8 replacement unit.

The dipstick will be on the driver's side - but, 3rd gen headers solves that problem.

Other than that, no issues, depending upon what heads are actually on it.

Re: 305 to 307 swap

This is a Chevrolet 307, correct? Installing it into an F-body shouldn't present any issues.

Now if it's an Olds 307...You might run into some issues

I keep forgetting that.

Good catch.

Re: 305 to 307 swap

Yes it has been completely rebuilt with lots of high end parts. The guy was building it for someone then they decided they didn't want it anymore and now the builder still has it.

So would 305/350 style headers such as hooker 2055s fit a 307?

If it is a small block Chevy (not the Olds), and has standard exhaust port heads, yes, the 2055HKR would fit it just fine.
