Can the Computer and engine harness come out?
I'm putting a 383 carb motor into an original 305 RS body. Can I take the computer and engine wiring harness out completely, or are there other things tied into it that I need to keep? It's a 1991 Model

You can take the computer harness out.
If you take the engine harness out, you're going to have to find some other way to power the ignition, get gauge signals, charge the battery, power the chassis, start the car, etc.

I am planning the same thing in the future and will just get a summit or painless harness and just go ahead and get everything took care of while I have the chance. The Summit ones are pretty cheap so that could be an option to look into. Best of luck

I mas hoping to just be able to get rid of all the weatherpac connectors and their wiring. Is there a safe way to do this? I obviously don't want a bunch of hot wires sticking everywhere. I just want to clean the bay up a little bit, not go all out with a new harness.

I don't see why I would use this stuff, I pulled the old engine out (also carbureted) and it didn't use any of them. I don't see why anyone would EVER go back to the 305. I'll see what I can do when I get some free time.

Everything else you need to run a non-computer engine/car comes through the firewall in other places. The one exception is the torque converter lock-up harness that goes to the transmission - if you're keeping your TH700R-4 transmission, you'll have to do something to get the lock-up function back.

well I like your approach a LOT better.
That is really a very poor approach. As has been discussed many, many times on this Board, the computer-specific stuff is pretty much all or all collected within one harness that goes to the passenger fender well. The whole thing can be removed without cutting a single piece of copper. You may have to separate out a couple of wires from the harness, but that's it. If you take the passenger side plastic fender liner out, you'll see where the harness passes through to the passenger compartment. Take out the kick panel from inside the car, disconnect the harness from the ECM, unclip the connector from the wall, and pull the harness out into the engine compartment. Anything that is connected to that harness can be unbolted (sensors included) and taken out of the car. Then you can sell it to someone who realizes the carb conversion they did on their car is illegal, and they need to replace the computer harness they cut up and heat shrinked.

In addition to the torque converter lock you may also need to find an alternate method of engaging the fuel pump, providing you're going to keep the TBI in-tank pump. The prime and engine "on" signals come from the ECM and its harness.
