87 TPI engine swap to older 350 URGEANT !!!!! PLEASEEEEE!

i have a 1987 z28 camaro, with a TPI 305 and its blown. Availabe to me is a older 1976 0010 block high performance 350 out of an ex-race car. Im thinking of switching it for my 305, using the 305 heads and TPI set up.
what other problems may i encounter such as, flex plate bolting up, and tranny bolting up(i have a 700r4 tranny) and pulley problems. Do i have to use my 305 TPI heads on this block or can i use the heads that came with the 76 engine, seeing as there all done up for high performance.
Also may i have motor mount problems?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

Re: 87 TPI engine swap to older 350 URGEANT !!!!! PLEASEEEEE!

both block should be exactly the same except bore however there may be custom motor mounts on it but you can unbolt those and put your 305 mounts on it and itll fit perfect and all of your old brackets will bolt on the block the same so there are no pulley problems itll be a perfect fit

the heads depend on the year of the performance heads because in 87 they changed the angle of the center four intake bolts from 90 degrees to 70 degrees so make sure your tpi intake will fit on the performance heads i am building a decked 350 and putting my 305 heads on and just found that out cuz i was gonna use some already rebuilt 305 heads and they were too old for my tpi intake so i ended up rebuilding my lb9 heads

another issue you should consider is the computer system

you need a 350 esc module
and need to adjust your prom for the 350
and im guessing the 350 came with a knock sensor

theres alot to consider like what you are building the motor for and etc but itll fit in no problem

here is a link for some assistance: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...-350-swap.html

but as far as you main question about fitting and mechanical issues you will be fine

forgot that they changed from 2 piece main seal to 1 piece therefor they may be different see this link:

I suggest posting here atilla knows alot... surely alot more than me all i know is what ive done
sorry about that

Re: 87 TPI engine swap to older 350 URGEANT !!!!! PLEASEEEEE!

in regards to considering what the motor is built for:

if the motor is a race motor than tpi might not be the best to put on it because it chokes at 4500-5000 rpms and that race motor is probably built for high end but im not sure

you should look more into the motor and make sure you find out what you want out of the motor and ask around the forums and your friends what you can do

I chose 350 with 305 heads and TPI and a nice cam to make some great low end torque but thats all it is LOW END because I like to jump off the line but if you want speed and overall horsepower ask around these forums cuz your motor sounds like its designed for high performance and you might wanna carb it or somethin im no pro im just tellin ya what i did/am doing =D
