Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
The sticky doesn't specifically address keeping TBI on the big block. Mostly because most people have bigger plans than TBI supports, and the hassles involved are greater than swapping over to carb.
Do you have more specifics about the 454 TBI you have?

Re: 305tbi to 454tbi??
If your car is a TBI car,you can plug everything from that harness to the 454.You will have to reroute and possibly lengthen/shorten some things. You will need the ECM from the 454.I've done this swap in pickups,it may be a bit lackluster in a 3rd gen,but would still be a fun ride, that is very reliable, and definately falls into the different category.

Define "older".
Don't paint this as a slam dunk. There will be plenty of issues and hurdles. Yes, it will be "worth it", but careful planning ahead of time will avoid many pitfalls and frustrations.
Only hearing "hell yea man!" is a disaster waiting to happen.
