Is this a good buy? 1970 Corvette engine?
Hey guys, my 305 TBI just has no guts.. So I'm picking up a 1970 Corvette engine, I believe it's the LT1, but I really don't know vettes.. Anyway, the casting numbers on the block are.. 970010, which means it's a 4 bolt main, double bump head engine. It's all there, too. Any good?

010 block was the generic 4" bore block, used from '69-79, so it can be almost anything - 350, 302, 327. Power could be anything from 165hp to 370hp. Could be 2-bolt mains or 4-bolt mains.
How do you know its a '70 LT1? Thats a VERY rare engine, and worth some serious coin to a restorer. What heads are on it? What intake? What cam is in it?

I'm picking it up early this week, the way it was explained is when my buddies, brother was buying an engine for his '68 Chevelle project he came across this, guy said he pulled it from a 70 corvette but didn't end up putting it into anything, I might have to run the numbers on the heads, and intake..

Don't be surprised if this turns out to be a generic 350 being pawned off as "out of a Vette".

Most likely, good base to start from though..
The code off the head is 833882
It also has a 4 barrel intake. Just thought I'd add that.

Probably the block, at least, if it's in good shape.

882 heads are the generic low performance, low compression 350 heads. Totally different animal from what an LT-1 would have come with. 882 heads started appearing around '75 or '76 If I remember right.
Its not an LT-1, but its still a 350. As long as the engine itself is in good shape, its still a good engine to use and build up.

Haha, you guys are good, I searched google for like 2 hours for those numbers..
So would this make it out of a later 'vette? I know it's not out of a truck by the tail stock on the transmission.
I sure I can find a set of double bump heads, stuff is so cheap here in Windsor.. Chrysler is shut down.

If you put some decent heads, cam and intake on it, you'll have alot more power than any 305 tbi motor....
