FWD engine mounts
FWD engine mounts
I need a bit of help with what the differences are between the fwd engine mounts and the rwd blocks. I have a 2.8 rwd so I know how that mounts.
I've been offered a free 3100. Now instead of doing the gut both and build a hybrid I was wondering just how hard making mounts for the fwd block would be? That way I can just use the entire engine instead of doing a buildup right away. I know about the starter dist and other issues but have yet to see the fwd mounts.
I gather the rwd mount bosses are there but not drilled or tapped on the one side. I believe that it uses the normal mount bosses on one side. But what and where does it use on the other side?
I've searched this board and others and web pages but nada which really surprised me. I would have thought there would be tons. This would be going in a 1400lb car and the 3100 with mild mods would put out about all the power that would stick. However the lighter I can get it the better which is why I'd love to get the alum heads.
Can anyone help?

Re: FWD engine mounts
Are you trying to make a 3rd gen front wheel drive? Or are you trying to make a front wheel drive motor into a rear wheel drive motor?
The 3rd gen f-body (as all f bodies) are rear wheel drive - period. There are no provisions at all anywhere for front wheel drive. And, I've never heard of any front wheel drive motor being changed into a rear wheel drive format, without mounting the front wheel drive motor in the rear of a car.
That being said - anything is possible, with enough cash and time - but with all required to do it, what would be the point?
I have plenty of places for you to throw your money if it's burning a hole in your pocket that badly
Just go to my profile to get my email addy, and Paypal yourself into ecstasy!

No the idea is to use the fwd gen3 engine in RWD configuration connected to a T5. What I haven't found is how the fwd mounts differ. It uses the normal rwd boss on one side but the other side is different. If all I need to do is fab mounts then this isn't that big of a deal. The problem I have is finding out where how/where so I can then figure out what changes I need to make to my frame to make this work.
