305 189 heads on truck 350 good idea? With Nitrous?
Hey guys I have a 90 Camaro TBI 305 that the engine blew in. The Heads are still good.
I'm going to a carb setup with a 350 motor out a 90 something truck (not vortech the truck is also tbi but will do a carb setup instead). The truck runs but the heads on it are shot. Can the swirl port 58 cc heads on the Maro now work with the 350 truck motor. Will it make the compression to high? Will it run worth a darn or will it not flow enough for the engine and require premium or will it ping (knock) irregardless?
This is a project car with the money being split half with me and a buddy. He want to put a 100 shot nitrous on the 350 with 305 heads. Is this a suicide move for the engine?
I have experience with Nitrous I know what it takes to make it work withoust blowing up the motor and with compression possibly going real high I'm worried? Should I be?
Thanks guys!

Lots of people do it when doing a 350 on the cheap to get a higher compression ratio. My take has always been that the added compression isn't doing you any good if those heads are choking that 350.
Just my $.02.

Thats what I assumed.
So for just a daily driver with some "playing around" will it be ok for say a year or two until the LQ4 swap happens and will Nitrous at only 100 shot once in a while be ok also?

If it's just a street car then it'll run no problem. As far as playing around goes it'll probably limit the capabilities of the motor at higher rpm (when those tiny heads run out of cfm) And as far as nitrous goes i have no idea, the people I know who put 305 heads on a 350 weren't really interested in the fun factor and were just trying to get a vehicle on the road.

Many have used 305 heads on 350's, but the casting #'s are typically 081, 416, or 601. They don't "choke" a 350 because they have the same port sizes as factory 64cc chamber 350 heads. They don't raise compression too much on a truck shortblock because the truck engines almost always have dished pistons.
