87 305 Engine Swap. Help???
Hello everyone!
I have a 1987 Camaro Z28 with a 305 one-piece rear seal-- 5 spd borg/warner in it and i recently pulled the weak 305 out and am planning on installing a 350 which came out of a 1994 or 95 GMC
1500 Pick-up and it is a one-piece rear seal also. and i was wondering if i would have to modify anything in particular to match up the T-5 Transmission with the 350 ; Different flywheel, pressure plate, Etc.?????
Also the 350 is TBI, can't i just change the manifold and make it Carbureted?? Or do i have to do anything else?? thanks for helping.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
The flywheel, clutch and T5 stuff will all transfer directly over to the 350.
I assume your 305 is carbureted. Your intake et al will transfer directly over to the 350 with a new set of gaskets. You could even transfer your roller lifter equipment over to the 350 (assuming the block is machined and tapped for the roller retainer stuff, which it most likely is). An upgrade roller cam to go with it would be a nice upgrade. Pushrods go with the type of lifter - short for roller, long for flat-tappet.
Use the knock sensor that is on the 350 (assuming you got that). Not sure if the truck has a module like f-bodies, but if it does, try to get it, too. Or, get one from GM.
The 305 exhaust is restrictive to a 305, let alone a 350. It will fit the 350, but this would also be a good time to upgrade the entire factory exhaust.

It would be harder. The center two intake manifold bolt holes on each side are at a different angle on the older engines, and you'd need a different flywheel ('83-'85 f-body 305 application). Depending upon how old it is, the dipstick could be on the driver side and get in the way of the exhaust manifold. The heads most likely are boat anchors as well.
You're better off with the '94 engine.

Re: 87 305 Engine Swap. Help???
i took the older block out of my other 87 iroc (not the stock engine, originally came out of 77-79 monte carlo had been bored over 0.30) which was bolted up to a 700R4. It seemed like it fit alright in that camaro so no issues on that.
but what will it take to install it in my 87 z28 and bolt up to the T5 tranny?? what flywheel should i buy????
- dia. size /# of teeth???? any thing extra??
thanks for help
