305 computer with 350HO

I am going to order a 350 HO for my 86 IROC and need to know if I can use the 305's computer since I will be using the computer Quadrajet, 700R4, etc.. I know other people have made similar swaps but most of them don't mention anything about the computer. Thanks in advance! (No pun intended)

Save a few more nickels and dimes and get the 350 HO conversion kit. It comes with the ZZ4 crate engine and everything you need, including the computer, to make it a running and legal swap. Even has exhaust, transmission upgrades, and lower control arms with poly bushings. And an instruction book!

If you just get the engine, go ahead and use your computer, but get a 350 knock sensor. You can put a new chip in your old computer to help it some. Your LG4 exhaust will be a big limiter, so get headers, y-pipe, high flow cat and cat back to allow the 350 to breathe. Don't use the distributor that (may) comes with the engine - use the LG4 piece.

See, now you're almost up to the cost of the conversion kit, and you still haven't upgraded your transmission or suspension!

Thanks for the reply five7kid! I wish I could afford to do the conversion kit but with four kids it is really time consuming to save that much money. The exhaust fell off the car last year so I put on a high flow cat and the Flowmaster Force 2 cat-back system (I guess I should have mentioned that before). I guess I need to take it one step at a time to get to the final goal. The 305 has 211,203 miles on it and is starting to make "The Noises" so I need to replace it soon and I want to get a good foundation to later expand on. I just can't decide between the Goodwrench Target motor or the 330 HP HO. I do appreciate all of your suggestions, and any others you have.

five7kid, what is the 350 HO conversion kit?
what does it convert? I am asking cause I would like to do a 350 swap with my existing 305 TBI, but besides the money it just seems like there is a lot of special modding required. Will this conversion Kit make it easier?? Thanks....bob

HO 350 Camaro Conversion, p/n 10185077. It is for '82-87 (says "Camaro", not sure about Firebird) originally equipped with an LG4 or L69 w/700R4 tranny.

Sorry, rsilver, your '91 doesn't qualify (strike one). The kit uses the stock carb, and is only certified for carb'd vehicles in those years (strike two). Not certified for manual tranny - strike three.

Put the part number in the search field, it'll take you there in a click or two.

The archives of this board are full Q&A's on this subject. The consensus seems to be that all generations of GM computers are pretty forgiving in terms of displacement, compression ratio etc. One exception would be valve overlap. If you keep the cam duration within reason many engine combos will work. You will need for a 350 knock sensor.

Red 84 Z28 HO, stock L82 350, L69 carb, intake, and air cleaner.
5 Spd, 3:73 Posi, 1 5/8" SLP headers, 3"cat connected to
stock L69 exhaust, KYB's, homemade SFC's,STB and wonderbar
Some are faster but mine's fast enough.
