305 Stroker kits, how 'bout it?
I've seen an ad or two for a 305 stroker kit (I think it was 335 or something.) Anybody done one yet? I'm thinking about doing one someday with a MAF TPI. Any thoughts. (not that it matters but I want to put this in a vega.)
yea, i know its a sin to talk about , ok, i wont really say it... the 302 made by F**d, yea, that 'other' company. i saw in some hot rod mag a mustang with a stroked 302, was stroked to a 337 i believe. performance increased marginally, but my recommendation is stepping up to a 350.
Well, for my camaro, of course i'm doing a 350. if a good 5.7 tpi comes along, i'll probably do one in the vega as well. but the vega will be my daily driver and should be light enough to really get around ok with the 305 (or whatever). and speaking of ford. that makes me think, the reason the fords do so well in A-sedan (scca club racing, camaros, mustangs) is because they have a SHORTER stroke than the 305 with a larger bore. maybe the stroker isn't such a good idea. it seems the small bore will still be shrouding the flow around the valves.
thanks for making me think, though i'm still considering the stroker 305.
anyone else?

One of the magazines did a stroker 305 and it made a butt load of torque. A 305 is a torque motor by all respects (small bore long stroke). What the stroker 305 is, is a 383 crank in a 305 block (remember the 305 and 350 use the same crank so a 383 crank will drop right in) which make it a 337. This motor would be great for a truck but I don't know about the Vega... You might have a little bit of a traction problem with that motor in the Vega....lol.
I've gotta agree that a 305 is a torquer. I surprised a lot of people after riding in my '83 LG4 5spd car by telling them it was a 305. with the 5spd, it's really got that sotp kick. I've also been wanting to do a tpi in a '62 to '66 chevy truck for towing. I think i'll go with a 350, but the stroker is an inviting option, out to get a little better fuel economy anyway.

The primary "downside" I would see with the stroked 305 is that you will spend as much to build a 305 to a 335 as you would to build a 350 to a 383. I think you could buy a "Goodwrench" 350 for less money.
