Plumbing Primer, LT-1 swap
Plumbing Primer, LT-1 swap
My apologies for being so ignorant about this
but I don't know where to start...
The project is an LT-1 swap into a TBI thirdgen.
What should I use to plumb the fuel system
safely.
Unfortunately I am ignorant of fitting types,
lines and "best practices".
Has anyone found a discussion, magazine article or would be willing to answer some
"idiot" questions.
1. I have to pull the fuel tank anyway
Soo.. What should I use from the fuel tank
to the filter.
2. What filter should I use ?
Are they different other than cosmetics. ?
3. What kind of "flex lines" make the best
transition from the hard lines to the
fuel rails. ?
4. Where should this transition take place
(Top of the fender, underneath the frame
rail) ?
5. Routing, Any advantage to doing it one
way versus another ?
6. How about the fuel pump itself
Anything I should stay away from ?
but I don't know where to start...

i'd think the stock lines would be fine, might be a differance at the last flex line and hard line to the engine. i'm not sure there what you have or would have to do, but i'll generalize. the hard lines and o ring flares should be the same, maybe you'll get luckey and they'll fit. if not use a o ring flared hard line at the fuel rail and another from the factory flex line and use a piece of rubber fuel line as a coupling and vibration fitting. you might also be able to use AN type fittings, but they get pretty costly in a hurry.

The LT1 intakes use a quick disconnect design to connect the fuel lines from the manifold to the lines from the car. There is a special tool to disconnect these, not sure of the cost. Also the lines in an LT1 car (camaro, firebird, caprice) come up at the back of the firewall.. The lines on our cars come out twoards the front of the car along the frame rail. I myself was thinking about useing braided stanless lines from the stock location to the intake. I plan to do this swap soon also, so let me know how it goes if you start before me. im hard up on cash, and my LT1 has 124,000 miles on it. (gonna rebuild with good heads and cam)
