Another Newbie question.....
My plans for a complete car build up include a 383 engine. now, i was trying to decide what car to put it into. Either a 91/92 and keeping the EFI, or doing an older 82-86 Z and having it be carbed. now, my question is:
either way, i would need a custom computer chip. am i right in this assumption?
don't really care about MPG because this will be a weekend warrior car. so would the carb be the best route? thanks for any help!

The carb would be the cheapest rout and if you remove the computer you don't have to worry about a chip. Considering it will be a weekend crusier I doubt you are to worried about the emmissions and you already said that you don't car about the MPG so I would say save yourself a tun of money and go with the carb and remove the computer.
well, i would still have to take emmissions is the problem, but there is no visual inspection. so i would basically need just a cat on the exhaust sytem and then i can take it off after. would the no computer pose a problem for the roller emmissions test?

It could, but your emissions should be higher right when you swap the engine and put on a carb. Personaly I'd much rather have a nice TPI 383, you need a chip but big deal. I just dont really like carbs, I dont know enough about them so their a nightmare, funny though because TPI is complicated as hell too!
DoBeR.. I am just the opposite...lol. I don't mess with anything that is fuel inficted, uhh I mean injected..lol, because I don't know squat about it. A carb is very easy and the easiest way to pass an emmissions test with a carb is to lean it out before you go. As long as your carb or fuel injection is tuned right you should not have to much of a problem passing an emmissions test. Case in point, my race car (which is a street car by the way) pass an emmisins test much better than my daily driver all stock 305 truck. We had to make my truck pass while the Nova just passed with no problems...lol, go figure.
