350, Roller vs Non Roller....

So what are the advantages vs disadvantages of each block setup? What about availability of each?

I have been told that the roller stuff creates less friction, and therefore increases drivetrain longevity, but is there anything else it does or doesnt do for that matter?

Thanks,
Daniel

roller cams can run more aggresive cam profiles. you'd also get a one piece main seal if you have a roller block.

What about as far as a mild (daily driver) cam? Also One piece vs two peice main seal. What are the ad/dis advantages?

As far as a roller Vs. a flat tappet goes it is like the differance between puching a car that is sitting on the frame and pushing a car that has wheels on it. A flat tappet cam has alot of drag with the cam moving on the bottom of the lifters where the roller cam does not. This is where you lose the friction and gain HP. If you take a flat tappet hydrolic cam and a hydrolic roller cam that are the same size the roller cam will make much more power. You would have to go up 2 cam sizes to get the same type gains as you would with the smaller roller cam. Now, as far as a 1 peice rear main seal Vs. a 2 peice rear main seal the big differance is the whole reason they started makeing them that way in the first place.... They don't leak like the older 2 peice rear main seal blocks do.

Yes, the L98 is a roller block and they first placed them into Camaros in 1987. They may have put them into Vettes in 1986 (they are always 1 year ahead of us poor folks cars)

no roller 400 blocks but you can put an aftermarket roller cam in any engine.
