Wiring removal with motor swap
Wiring removal with motor swap
i have a lg4 and i'm throwing it away for a ~400 horse 355. my question is a bout the removal of the wiring and ecm from the old engine. if i remove the ecm, i know that the speedo will not work (electronic type), but will the lights/wipers/heat.... still work? also, what relays can i remove under the hood and still keep the popup headlights/foglights working? thanx!!!

basically what i've always done is remove the harness from the sensers and traced it back to the ecm, pulling and cutting as i go. only thing to watch for from what i've saw is the fuel pump. i've never done a eletric speedo. never had problems with accessories or lights either.

This will help you with the speedo... http://www.angelfire.com/mt/psh/speedo.htm
As for removing the wiring, pretty much everything that comes into the engine compartment from behind the passenger side fender can be removed as most of it goes to the ECM - the only wires you will need to keep are the two that go to the speedo sending unit on the tranny (yellow and purple). The headlight wiring harness is seperate from the others and runs in through the drivers side firewall under the brake booster; the other harness that runs through under the booster goes to the battery, starter, temp and oil pressure guages, and distributor.
PS the wiring harness for the heater motor runs in just under the inlet/outlet for the heater core
