big block conversion
big block conversion
I got a sweet deal on a 71' pontiac 400. first, iwas wondering if there is some sort of conversion kit for this application, and second, i was wondering if my 700 r4 will hookup with any problems, or problems with the motor mounts, exhaust system, etc. any advice is appreciated.

No. There are no kits available to install a B-O-P engine into a third gen. You'll have to fabricate everything to install it. The tranny won't work because B-O-P have a different bellhousing pattern than chevy.

I know that Mark28V6 just finished putting his 406 pontiac into an 89 so he could be alot of help if you can get him to read this.

Just remembered, a 500 caddy is the same bellhousing pattern as B-O-P and damn close to the same external dimensions as a BBC. There are enough parts and kits to convert parts that if you really want to be a sick puppy......

Info about my '88 BBC swap is on my page. Some of it might be useful.

The caddy would be an easier swap. You need the Hooker BBC headers and the caddy exhaust flange that's available from places like Cad Company. You cut off the BBC flange and weld on the caddy flange and you then have caddy headers. You'll still need a tranny with the B-O-P bellhousing.
