305 TBI (L03) to Big Block?
Hi fellow thirdgeners.
I wanted to know if there are any bbc's that would fit my 91 Camaro RS with the minimum of modifications(I dont want/have money to swap the tranny or any of the other stuff). Would any hood modifications be necessary to make it fit? How about engine mounts? Keep in mind I live in California, and I have to deal with smog issues. How much do you think it would cost to do?

In short, They all fit. the mark-4 engine's (396,402,427,454 and the 502) are all the same size externally. They also have the same trans bolt pattern. Where you run into problems are, as you mentioned, smog laws. In order to pass smog in Ca you would need to keep all emissions from the newer vechicle. That means a carb is out.
I could go into a huge speech about how to get it done and pass smog in Ca but even then you would need to take it to a "referee" smog station, and they may not like the way something looks and fail the car.
