cheap 350 or a 383?
i have a 89 firechicken that has a V6 in it and i am going to put a V8 in it. ok, here's my delimia. i have a 350, i can get a complete rebuild kit, flat top pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, you name it for 154 bucks from northern automotive performance. not to bad in my book. Speed o motives stroker kits are 400 bucks(not to bad either. My neighbor has a 81 camaro with a 383 in it, i picked out the engine parts for the car and helped build it, it has a 268 extreme cam, 64cc heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, TH700R4, headers...well everything has been done to it, and the car is pretty damn fast. havent gotten to the track yet so i dont know how fast. the only thing i wish i would have done different is put a 274xtreme cam in it. my thing is i want to beat this car(its a personal thing)I dont think i can do it with a 350. I am trying to decide between a 268 or 274 cam. The heads are #461 double hump heads, ported/polished 2.02/1.60 rockers. I am going to put headers and free flowing exhaust on it. TH700R4 with 3.42 rear gears. the only thing different between our to cars is the cubic inches, i have a little better gear, and maybe a slight weight advantage. i dont know how big of difference there is between a 350 and a 383. any suggestions, thoughts? sorry this was so long. thanks Lil j
