Hey whithin the next month I am replacing my 305 with a 383 stroker whith AFR heads. When I called AFR they said go with a Edelbrock preformer Rpm. Do I have room to go with this intake with a carb under the hood of my 89? If not whats the best way to go?

Thanks
Austin

We have one under the hood of an 82Z28. All I had to do was remove the mecanism that upened the flaps on the hood (which your car does not have). So to answer your question... yes it will fit under the hood of an 89 Camaro (if that is what you have), I don't know if it will fit under a Firebird hood because because it slopes down more in the front.

Thanks for the reply Yes it is a camaro but it has the standard hood its not a z28 doesnt the z28 hood have a hump in it for more room? As it is my air cleaner hits the hood. This is with a stock air cleaner and a TBI.

If you use a 3" drop-base air cleaner (K&N) and shave the air cleaner stud down it WILL FIT! But it's REALLY close.

I cut it with a jig saw and had an L88 hood scoop out of summit painted to match the car. Double sided taped it to the hood and rivited the corners. It looks really good and only cost me about 100 dollars all together. I added some bow tie stickers to the side for effect, but if I can find cowl induction emblems ill put those on. just like the old chevelles

I've got an RPM, 600 Holley and 3/4" NOS plate under my '84 TA Hood. I didn't have to cut anything but I used a drop base aircleaner. It's pretty tight. The 84 hood has a power bulge though and that allows the wingnut on the aircleaner somewhere to go.

All you guys with the drop-base air-cleaners:

How much clearance do you have between the top of the carb or throttle body, and the air cleaner top?

Reason for asking: I gained about 35 RWHP by using a 3/4" spacer between my carb and air cleaner, after I noticed that the breather top was only about 1¼" above the air horn; it almost touched the choke blade. My Performer (not RPM), Holley 6211, spacer, & bone-stock L69 air cleaner just barely fit under the stock 83 fiberglass hood; I'd really like to put on a bigger intake but I doubt it will fit without some unacceptable hacking. So I'm curious what the actual air flow you can achieve under the stock hood is.

ME again.
I decided just to buy a motor instead of the 383 I have the zz430 clone with gm's Performer rpm. I am ready to oreder the aircleaner right now but dont know which one. I need a 3X14 inch with a drop base. I also have a Hei to clear. The Jegs book has a 1 1/4 drop base, a 13/16 drop base, and a 1 1/2 offset base to clear the Hei, Only the offset base is not a drop base. These are the K&N filters. WHich one do I need and is it going to clear the HEI

First I have the performer rpm with the performer carb a dropped base air cleaner no
offset. The lid rubs a little but I also have the Edelbrock script aircleaner lid thick aluminum or I beleave it would'nt rub.Anyway I've got an HEI and it clears but the base of the air cleaner runs close to the spark plug boots and at high rpm's sparks jump from
the boots to the aircleaner base.To cure this
grind about a 1/4 inch off the back of the base.Grind about 4 inches around and 1/4 inch
in and it took care of the problem and once
the filter and lid are in place you can't see
where anything was ground away.
By the way I'm useing a 3x14in. K.N. filter.
and before you ask the problem occured with
new sparkplug wires,cap,etc.
