The TPI setup was designed for a 305 so putting it on a 383 will leave the engine huffing. Many on this board think that a MiniRam/SuperRam setup is way better, search on this, there's been tons of postings lately.

Yah, im sure a miniram setup would be better, but for the price of one, i'd rather buy a bike i'm already running svo 24 # injectors.. would stepping them up to 30# or so counteract the "huffing" ? just trying to go about this the most inexpensive way

Bumping up your injector size will NOT help with the "huffing". The problem is that the stock TPI setup will not flow enough air at higher RPM's. The only way to counteract this is with an aftermarket setup like the Super Ram or Mini Ram. If you can't afford this, they you can try porting the stock pieces.

my friend is in the process of this conversion with his tpi from a 305 also and he says it will cost him about 2500$ thats building the engine and... the injection crap.(sorry not a injection and computer fan!) hes going through some of the same q's and the ones askes on this site are really helping him some, good thing i know nothing at all about tpi (well, a few things! i do!) and im building whatever he decides to put in front of me so i'll emailyou to let you know how the switch goes! and the engine build(maybe pics!) as for going carb four tpi is great with some mods and still pull down 20+ mpg! so just keep the injection and do some mods i'll have him rspond after me! the switch from tpi to carb is about 500$ with all the parts you need ! i did atbi to carb swap! and am still trying to get the "carb" part running right (edlebrocks are touchy!)

Sorry guys but a stock TPI will do just fine on a 383 (even a 400 for that matter)!! You just need to do a little porting to the plenum and the intake to help out a bit!! 24# SVO injectors are the ones I'll be going with! I'm getting a AFPR however to help out with that! Other than that, a $350 custom Ed Wright chip from www.fastchip.com is all you really need!! I'm looking at around $2500-$2700 but that's including the injectors which you already have plus a few other odds and ends! If you want a good 383 kit check into powerhouse..... they don't have an online catalog or much of a website for that matter but their site does have their email address on it and you can email them and get their catalog sent to you! www.enginekits.com
Their engine kits either come balanced or you can get them balanced through them and a magazine article I saw said that the balancing that powerhouse does is "near perfection"! I've heard nothing but good things about them!

As far as the Super/Mini Ram.....good idea IF you have the money!!! But personally I would only go to the Super/Mini Ram if I were building a 500+ HP engine! The Super/Mini Ram cuts off about 60 ft lbs of low end torque but when you're up around 500 ft lbs or more, 60 isn't much! It also gives you an extra 1000 RPMS and an extra 100 HP throughout that range!! But again, MONEY is the issue!! Heck, you could even buy an aftermarket intake for the stock TPI for less than the Super/Mini Ram!!!

4 Wheel Discs
9 bolt Borg Warner Rear
Completely Stock
Soon to upgrade to a 383 stroker w/TPI, Headman Shorty Headers, AFR 190cc Heads, ported intake, comp cam, TPIS air foil, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator (probably Holley), 24 lb/hr SVO injectors, and some sort of aftermarket ignition (undecided)!
Current project: Keeping my car running until I get the money for the above mentioned project! :-)

that's GOOD to know, 86TpiTransAm! I'm seriously thinking of doing the same thing. I'd like to salvage the TPI for my 383 progect, too... but I may just carb it.
