Hotrod Ramjet installation 'mock-up' help...
Plans this spring are to drop a 350 pfi ramjet crate in my '87 IROC to replace the tired 100k L98. I am trying to solve as many of the problems as possible I will have with this swap before I even get started. Here we go...
1.)The fuel delivery should be no problem with some AN fittings and some braided line to adapt to the new fuel input and output; the ramjet comes with its own fuel pump relay that will work great for my stock h.p. pump.
2.)Exhaust shoudn't be all that tricky, I am going for the slp headers to start things off. A buddy of mine that runs a tuffy said he'd help me attach my headers to my already mounted up rhino 3" H.F. cat-back system, overpassing the cat.
3.)Electrical is going to be a bit trickier. As far as I know, the only things that will be left high and dry after removing my ecm will be my tranny lock-up, easily fixable with an auxilary lock-up control switch, and my cooling fans. The best thing I can figure for the fans is to hot wire them to come on any time the ignition is in the run position. Is there anything I forgot here or a beter solution for the fan operation? This portion of the swap must be similar to a tpi to carb swap, have any of you guys done this? Did you have to keep the ecm in operation for some reason or did you just ditch it?
4.)Air intake is one I haven't figured out yet. I need some ducting to go between the 'tell-tail' 3rd gen y piece and the throttle body. I obviously don't want to use the piece originally on my car because it includes my maf which I think would be a bottle neck for the allmighty ramjet, although I suppose it would work until I find somthing else in a worst case scenario. I wonder what type of piece a car originally equuiped with a map sensor instead of maf would have there? The ramjet TB comes from a chevy truck so mabey it has a piece that would work?? Any one have any ideas???
Well that's all I have as of right now, although I am sure some more problems will surface before this all works out. Is there any one else out there that is planning this swap in the near future? If there is let me know, and also post any problems you came up with here; I'm sure this swap would be easier with two heads than one. Any help or info on these subjects would be great.
Thanks guys!
