350...other options???
350...other options???
The L98 swap is very popular...too popular... Is there anyone getting decent power out of a 305 (bored/stroked is ok) or 327?? I like to be different but still able to hang in there. What did it cost and i am not looking for a 350/383 is better then a 305 argument here just options. 400 SB sound good but i am not sure of the cost and how it would react with a long runner TPI(That is what i want, long runner)
Thanks for any replies,

I am building a 327 that I am gonna put in my camaro this summer. I am shooting for about 300hp and 320-340tq. I bought it as a kit from PAW for $900, it's a pretty mild setup, and the project will probably come out to be $1100 with other misc. things and new parts like motor mounts, plugs, wiring.

Yea a totaly agree. This guy i cant recall his name, said with a super charger 4psi of boost was making 300+ with his 305. 327 is a good engine to build lots of hp. with a 305 I would try some flat top pistons+.30 a good cam ported heads and 3in or dual exhaust. I think the name of the post i mentioned was "what kinda power can i het from this 305" lots of good ideas there. As soon as the 305 in my bird goes im going for a 327 a stock 280 hp one not many people go the 305 or 327 route they think its a waste of money so if you do want imediate results well "you know"
good luck ssc.

The L98 swap may be popular, but that is for a reason. It's cheap and the bigger cubes give you more potential. 327's are cool though. Just saw one that needed rebuild for sale a couple weeks ago. $300

Where have you been? This debate has been raging for months. The latest is at https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000752.html . Check it out for my suggestions, most of which are in my sig (which I should be getting started on next month - getting the '57 going comes first).
305's need the same things an L98 needs: Cam, heads, exhaust. I stand by my contention that you can make a 305 you have run better for the money than a 350 you don't have.
Also, long runner = low RPMs, or torque motor. What better to use than a long stroke, large bore 400? You'll want to help it breathe better than the 305 parts do (larger TB, ported plenum), but otherwise, no reason it shouldn't work. Shorter than stock would still probably work better (assuming a larger bore siamesed runner type).
