What aret he best HEADS for my 350 on a carb

Trying to build a 350 for my 91 RS. I would like to find a set of heads better than the stock set. Trying to obtain no less that 350 hp and in the $300 for the whole heads set up. Help me out on what heads are going to work the best.

Look into the vortech heads. Last time I checked they were under $400 complete. These heads flow better than the 2.02 1.60 fuelie heads from years ago. You'll have to modify the center 2 bolts on your intake though. No biggie.

'88 IROC TPI 355, '69 truck 4-bolt, fully balanced, 9.75:1 compression, fully ported '70 truck heads(for now), Harland Sharp 1.6 Roller Rockers, Comp Cams CS 252AH-12, ported '86 TPI converted to speed density, Crane AFPR, Flowmaster 3in. exhaust, Edelbrock TES headers, all emissions equipment is still intact, plan on burning my own chips, many more mods and parts on the way as time and money permits =(

Yes, it is a biggie. Absolutely incompatible and you're not going to make a standard manifold fit the 4-bolt patter on the vortec head. However, if you're using a carb you have a few choices in manifolds from Edelbrock that you can use with the vortech heads. Also, if you use the vortec heads the compression in your motor may go steller if you don't have the correct pistons. Be sure to check into these compatibility issues before you buy.

No it isn't a biggie and it is compatible. We did it for a guy last year. All you need is a die grinder and a carbide bit. He's had no problems at all and I've heard of lots of people that've done this.
The vortech heads have 64cc combustion. Most pistons advertised compression ratio is for 64cc heads. In fact, nearly all aftermarket heads are 64cc.

Are you sure you're not thinking of the centerbolt heads with the canted inner manifold bolts? The vortec head uses a rectangular bolt pattern with 4 bolts.

I'm with QwkTrip on this one. I think you're thinking of the post '87 centerbolt heads, not the vortech ones.

you can get the vortech heads from www.paceparts.com that say they're drilled and tapped for use with the manifold for a centerbolt head application.

Has anyone run these heads with EGR? I work with a GM powertrain representative and he's not sure that the heads have an exhaust crossover for use with EGR. does anybody know how the EGR works with these heads?

thanks
Clem

Sorry guys, you're absolutely right. What we did was modify a Victor Jr. to fit '89 heads. I got screwed up thinking the centerbolt heads were Vortech. I'm only human.
Back to the question; I flipped through a couple Car Crafts and Hot Rods and found a bunch of places selling recon 2.02 1.60 64cc and 1.95 1.50 76cc heads for a tad over $300. Some of them even had screw in studs. Check it out!! I don't know how good the quality is though.

Yeah, they sell Vortec heads tapped and drilled for standard intake manifolds. I don't know if there is any major drawback to having them drilled, haven't heard anything that said it was bad (at least that I can remember). And I could easily be wrong, but I thought that when Hot Rod magazine did their "Junkyard Jewel" 350 buildup they took a die grinder to a Weiand Action+ intake, which is a standard carb intake. I don't have the article here to look at, but do remember that the Vortec heads could pretty easily help you get the numbers you are looking for.

So where can you pick up a set of vortech heads that will bolt up to the stock tpi intake manifold??
