Need advice on a setup for my 92 RS........

Okay... Well, I was planning on getting a 4th gen... That fell through.

I was driving my car with the T tops off, and I just decided to see what I can do with it, cause I love the car it's just not fast enough.

Anyways, I have the stock 305 tbi in it. The only things I've done to the car are an Open element air cleaner, and an exhaust cutout.

There is a guy in my area that's selling a fairly new 355 that propelled his iroc to low 13s.. It has a qjet carb and comes complete for $900...

My question is, if I were to buy this motor, how much $$$ would I be looking at to have someone install it for me? Would this be a practical thing to do? Once I get some more power under the hood, then I'll probably really start to like this car alot. I realize that the computer will have to be scrapped, but I don't care about that.

Will I be able to keep my AC? I plan on buying a torque converter lockup kit to take care of that. Then once the motor is installed I was thinking of adding 3.42 gears, an aluminum ds and a posi unit out back, and then getting a shift kit, tranny cooler, vette servo, and a 2,500 stall converter for the tranny.

I figure I'll be close to 12s with this setup.

Would this be worth it? By the way I have completely stock exhaust from the manifolds back. Thanks

you could buy the motor.. and a new intake and keep your TBI.. keep your computer. If you were to do this, your installation fee would be less this way as well. A swap wouldn't be that hard to do by yourself though.

What other things would I need to swap in this motor and keep my TBI?

I know that I would need a new intake manifold. Like a performer TBI. Are there any other types I could use?

I also know I'll need headers, and a good exhaust.

Anything else I'll need for this swap? Like a reprogram? Also, could anyone give me a guesstimate on how much this might cost me to have done?

with out the cam specs from this motor it's hard to say. for everything to run perfectly, and for maximum performance, it doesn't matter what kind of induction you use, if you keep the computer a chip would be wise.

the "Ragin'87" was a LG4 car(comp. cont. q-jet 305), I swapped in a 77 smog head(882s) 350, with a Comp Cams 268H cam and lifer set, and an edelbrock intake. the only thing I didn't use was the EGR, and I never even got that code(plugged in the solenoid, with no valve under it.) I didn't get a chip, and the car ran fine(after I got the carb sorted out, and the timing set right.. and all the basic tuning who's and what's.)

for more specific info on swapping and keeping your TBI, I'd suggest posting on the TBI board. If it's been done to a thirdgen, chances are it's been done by someone on this board.
