ZZ4... fuel injection.

Is it possible to put fuel injection on a ZZ4 Crate? I want to put a 350 with fuel injection. Although I was looking at something aside from the L98. I was planning on keeping the engine below $4k so the LS1 is out. Can the ZZ4 use fuel inj?

Thanks,
Jay

Yes. It's just like any other 350. The cam will work well with fuel injection. I had a Holley Projection system on a ZZ4. Just turn the key and drive away... no more warming up for 5 minutes before driving

I *think* the ZZ4 engine uses the Vortec heads. I know that TPI won't work (yet) but i beleive that there is an intake base that will allow you to use TBI. Check Sockin' Lockin' Dicky or whatever that place is called, i think he sells one.

No, the ZZ4 uses a derivation of the Corvette L98 head. It uses a centerbolt valve cover like the L98 but has a manifold bolt pattern like the earlier pre-1986 Chevy small blocks. If your throttle body bolts onto a square bore manifold then it will fit on the ZZ4. If you want to use TPI either get an aftermarket baseplate manifold for pre-1986 cylinder heads or use the manifold off of a 1985 TPI car. The 1986 and newer have the canted center bolts on the manifold and it will not mate up to the ZZ4 heads.

The tpi will work. I have done it. The zz4 has the pre-vortec bolt pattern. You would need an aftermarket lower manifold or a redrilled original. I am not sure about factory tbi though.

The ZZ4 does not have the exhaust cross-over passage in the heads, so the EGR valve needs to be fed via a tube from the exhaust manifold/header to the intake manifold.

The different angle center intake manifold bolts started in 1987, not 1986. The ZZ4 uses the pre-'86 bolt pattern (Vortec is completely different).

An '87-later intake can be made to fit the earlier style heads by elongating the center two bolt holes on each side of the manifold.

Either TPI or TBI can be made to work on a ZZ4. You aren't going to get the rated power out of it without some modifications to the induction, however.
