More than likely it's either a rod bearing, or it threw a rod. Either way it needs to be rebuilt. The noise is sometimes so loud that it does sound like it's hitting the oil pan. (I assume that is what you mean when you say base pan?) Usually if you pull off the oil pan, you can look up there and see. Try to jiggle the rods to see if any do jiggle. If one does jiggle then it might even be a busted wristpin in a piston. I can't hear the noise from the engine, but from what you told so far, it don't sound good.

I had an 305 I thought was a rod bearing but it was indeed the crank hitting the oilpan. I confirmed this when it ***** a hole through. I must have dentted the pan when putting the motor in to fast and not taking my time
