Engine SwapEverything about swapping an engine into your Third Gen.....be it V6, V8, LTX/LSX, crate engine, etc. Pictures, questions, answers, and work logs.
Hello, I have a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro RS. I have the old TBI 305 out now and will be swapping in a stock 1976 L82 350 w/ a carb. I have the old wiring harness still intact but not sure if it works. I want to run everything on this car and was wondering if anybody knows a good wiring harness I could use or if I should just use the old one. I checked painless but couldn't find one? Anyone got any part numbers or anything?
Don't cut out the rest right away - just tuck it aside. You'll want wiring that runs between the cabin and the engine bay, and you'll have them if you don't yank them out right away. I still have my complete passenger side harness tucked in the pass fenderwell, and I just pick a wire when I need. For example, I installed a seperate fan controller that had provision for a manual fan on switch, and having the old harness saved me from poking another wire through the firewall. Also, I installed fog lights, and used these wires (of course just to switch on a relay that powers the fogs from the battery). I'm always finding a use for the unused TBI wires after my carb swap. Just cut them back so you can still get to them, and tuck them away.
You can unbolt/unclip/remove all of the EFI (computer) harness without cutting anything. What you will be left with is the stuff you need for the carb'd engine - alternator, starter, ignition, tach, gauges, which all run to the other side of the engine compartment.
If you have an automatic transmission with lock up torque converter, that wiring goes with the EFI harness, so you'll have to do something else about that. May also be true about the VSS harness (not sure about that).
So keep the harness running to pass side? Can I get a pic. Just swapped out the f.I v6 for a car bed 305 and need to know here and what wires to use.pics greatly appreciated if avail.
so I've got a 1992 camaro rs I converted it to carb. Yes I did everything. Had it running even.
Trying to get my idle set the carb caught fire. It melted some of the deleted wires for the tbi as well as the distributor. But I got it all fixed. Replaced the distributor, fixed all the wires, and had it running again.
After that I noticed a leak coming from the carb so I had it rebuilt at a reputable shop.
now that I've put it on i can't get the car to even try to start.
I've got spark, fuel, and air. I set the eldebrock back to base settings for air fuel ratio and double checked the timing is set properly.
i've pulled #1 plug to make sure it's getting fuel but the motor does not fire off.
