Most of us with this engine just aren't satisfied and wonder what to get and how much it will cost.

I'm probably a week out from finishing the swap from my 305TBI to a 385TBI. Course, I'll be using a Holley or 454 TBI unit with Haltech computer so it's a tad different from a straight up swap, but other than that it's pretty straightforward. Any questions just email me...

I'm right in the middle of a 305 TBI/350 TPI swap. So far everything has gone fairly well (knock on wood). The only major PITA was replacing the engine mounts. You more or less have to taake the control arms off to access the bottom nuts. other then that make sure you read the article in the tech section about swapping in a TPI SD system. I can't tell you how much that has helped.

Parts that you will need:

1) 350 engine - duh.

2) Complete TPI setup - including matching computer, wiring harness and all sensors. I can't stress how important a complete system is. The last thing you want to do is go searcing for obsurce parts that were missing.

3) fuel pump - preferably a new walbro high pressure high volume pump, that way if you plan future mods you won't have to pull the gas tank all over again.

4) 350 knock sensor matching year of injection setup not the car.

5) New fuel lines from the chassis lines to the fuel rails. you might also want to replace the rear ones also while you have the tank out.

6) Possibly a junked dual fan setup not compleately nessacary but reccomended.

7) New collent and heater hoses.

8) make sure you have pleanty of all fluids as you will have to pretty much drain every system (except stering I think).

9) new engine mounts - might as well get those as long as the engine is out.

Thats all I can think of right now if you have any other questions please feel free to email me.

Jim

I'm looking for a 350 TPI to replace my 305 TBI with. Any suggestions to get them cheap but effective? How much would a new computer cost me? Should I start looking around for parts cars this weekend?

Standard tranny will bolt right up, correct? Model 700-something, stock auto

I went from 305tbi to a 350TPI. Lots of work. Luckily I had the donor car in the driveway. Then that motor died and I upgraded to a ZZ4TPI.

I aslo swapped my 305TBI for a carbed 350 with the Performer RPM package. The swap is fairly easy, you'd only need to change the distributor and get another fuel pump.
that's it...

Okay I heard my friend's friend has a stock 350 for sale, $500. I'm gonna look at that unless my mom's friend has one cheaper.

in the process of swapping 305 tbi to 350 tbi.
Using a 350 caprice crate motor with edelbock heads a 96 LT1 cam, edelbrock TBI manifold, 65# injectors and a GM cop car chip. Will upgrade induction later on to a carb manifold and maybe
SNFLU's TBI or a 2" TBI from another source along with a custom chip. Have tremec 5 speed on order.........bob

In the process of swapping 305tbi for a 350 carbed. The new motor is gonna have around 465-480hp at the crank. Next its getting it all to hook up. Its been a pain in the *** but mainly due to lagging of people im working with. Ive been without my camaro for like 3 and a half months now I miss it so so so much. But it will all be worth it when im done

Swap from L03 to 330hp vortec crage engine, total came to ~$3000 after everything (including tax and small parts).
I'm working on a tech article that will explain EVERYTHING that you need to remember when doing an engine swap into a L03 car.

It all depends. If you plan on keeping the 02 sensor to help you tune the carb. Do you plan on running an intank fuel pump or a mechanical one? What about fan temp switch? Are you keeping the electric or going with a clutch fan? The basic way of going about installing a carb from TBI is this:
Buy carb, drag knuckles across floor, scratch head and arm pits, grunt, slap on carb, play with it till it "feels" right.
If you keep carb you are basically trashing the whole engine wiring harness and ecm.

Is the 305TBI to LT1 swap easy? Are there any sites out there documenting the swap?
