Im replacing an 84 lg4 with an 86. Are there any minor changes from year to year on the lg4? Differances with computer or smog equipment, anything like that

Yup. '84 had dished pistons & low (8.6:1) compression, '86 has flat tops & higher (9.5:1) compression.
'86 also has knock sensor (good idea with the higher compression) and electric radiator fan. The fan has a tie to the heater control (turns the fan on when the A/C is on). I can't swear to this, but I believe the carb also has better secondaries on the '86 (AV opens wider, better rods/hanger).
If you can, get all the harnesses, sensors, distributor, ECM, et al, off of the '86. While you're at it, redo the exhaust to help that poor thing breathe better. Shoot, do the cam, too. And air cleaner. Tune the carb secondaries. Put World Products S/R 305 heads on it. Then, you'll have a better-than-an-HO 305.
Or, forget the '86 305 and get the Camaro 350 HO Conversion Kit from GM with the ZZ4 base engine. That takes care of all those problems. Lightens your wallet, too.
