V6 to V8 motor swap,,Done ,,,,almost,,HELP

O.K. I put a 305 from a 82 camaro into an 88 that WAS a V-6,,It's running but,,,it will idle for as long as I want but If I drive it it only runs for a minuite then dies like its sharving for gas,,I used the mech. pump that was on the motor to begin with, what is causing this thing to die???
Also the tac. is not working,,the V-6 had a 4 wire hook up to the dist.Dose anywone know which one goes to the dist??They are...
A - brown(it could be dirty white)
B - purple
C - black
D - Yellow
any help would be great,,,,

I left it in but was tryed running it with it pluged in and with it unpluged,,It didn't want to run with it unpluged.I know you guys are gona say to run the intake pump with a pressure regulator,,,right! But will that correct the problem,,,It seems to run O.K. untill I get some speed and get into 3rd then it dies..should I unplug the computer??could it be somehow shutting off the fuel pump??It is a carbed 305 and was once a 2,8 V6..Any Ideas???

ok i just did the same swap.you have three options.in my case,i had a tank from a 84(carbed,so no electric pump)and i put that in.you could do that. OR you could run the electric pump with a regulator, regulating it down to 5 lbs,or you could pull your tank out and take the pump out of it.then make a pick-up,or get a pick-up for a 82-84 carburated camaro.
as far as your tach goes:
i am assuming that your running a non computer controlled hei?
use the two wires on the grey conector from the v-6 distributor.the pink/white wire goes to the bat+ terminal on the v-8 hei.the tan/wht wire on the grey connector goes to the tach output on the v-6 hei.your v-6 instrument cluster wont read correctly for v-8,and has to be changed as well to a v-8 one(try to get a 145 speedo,im looking for one myself, ive got a 85mph spedo head if your interested)
look for my wiring hell post to get all the wire conversions that i did.your car may differ slightly, but it will get you on the right track

I did the hook up just like that for the ignition and tac. but its not working,,these two wires once went to the coil pac..
not the distributor.I'll check it tomarrow to make sure its hooked up right,,,I have a doner '82 camaro in the back yard so I have all the parts i need,, but I guess i'll do the fuel pressure reg..,,,I don't wanta drop the tank..The info you offered would be great ,,,thanks
