305HO to 383 stroker?

ok im thinkin bout buildin up a 383 stroker for my car.....do you guys have any advice for me....like parts or things i may run into when im swapping them......would it b possible if i could make it so the computer doesnt control the 383??

and also how much hp and torque do you think i would have to b able to keep up or beat a 4th gen with a LT1??
cuz i saw a combo where it would make 367hp and 414torque.....how fast would that b??

I did this exact swap you're talking about. I would highly recommend it. You will need ofcoars a different block(350)and some work at the machine shop, a 400 crank, pistons, and don't forget the starter. I have not been to the track but I have beaten quite a few 4th gen Z28's. Note: I have aluminum heads on my setup but you can go with some good performance iron heads instead.

I forgot about the computer question. I did away with my puter. You will need a different distributor,a different intake or you could use an adapter plate and since you wont have a computer anymore you will need a certain kit(switch) for your lockup converter(I went with a non lockup converter-2500 stall),I also removed the smog pump. My sig states almost all mods done to my car.

Read the articles in the magazine section by Steve Green ("Stroke in the Desert" or something like that). He did a 383 swap and kept the computer. He replaced the tranny with a built unit and put 3.73's in it. No 1/4 mile times, but he indicated it was fast.

I'd strongly suggest subframe connectors if you don't already have them.

On my heads I went with angle plugs and I have no trouble with burnt plug wires. Now if you don't mind using a 5/8 wrench when taking off your plugs then you can go with angle plugs. As far as heads It really depends on what you can afford. Not saying you can't afford aluminum but you can also get some Dart Iron Eagles for slightly less(about 850.00 assembled). Kind of feel like I'm spending your money here . The reason I went without a puter is cuz I did some research and most of the input I got as far as computer was that it would not support more than 250 hp. Now I could be wrong with this figure but I just decided that a Holley carb(My favorite) would feed my engine what it needed. Up to this point I have not had a problem with my Holley . I have been able to tune it to the point my car feels unstoppable. As far as my tranny the only thing done to it was a shift kit and I'm running a 2500 stall converter. Although I have got another 700r4 beefed up in case this one goes south. You can run your current tranny then save up for a quality build up. Mine cost around 1200.00 . I would also suggest you look into this a bit more before you make a decision and post when you do.

Also I want to point out that if you look around you might find some quality heads that are less expensive than the Dart Iron Eagles.
