The first thing you need to check for is the a/c unit, what side is it on, you might have to change the position of it and the water pump are diferent the 88 don't have all the holes the 86 has and i beleive there will be a clearence problem, and I beleive the bolt hole on the heads were diferent on my l98 these were the problems I run into, changing them out, hope this will help

Thanks. Yeah my A/C is on the drivers side. I have to swap that with the alternator. I was planning on new pulley for smog and steering, and new alt and comp. I am also getting a Sanden A/C compressor from vintageair.com and going to 134a. All those V-belts are ugly!!!! I hope this works! Any other ideas?

The alternators are different too (i think).

The newer serpentine's are the smaller cs alternators instead of the 10si full sizes. There's also two different front plate bolt patterns on these alternators, one for the 60 degree v6's and one from the v8's and 4.3's.

I though it was in the clocking, but after checking it further... they're different. I scored a complete setup out of a 4.3 blazer at the junkyard with the power steering pump, alternator, reverse rotation water pump (don't forget this big difference, as overheats will set in afterwards) and crank pulley... The whole deal with the tensioner and smog pump (which I removed..)

I could of taken the compressor. It might be easier just to switch everything instead of piecing it together, of course you lose the refrigerant doing this, but there's only two o-rings there that should be changed anyway...

If you want to swap, you need to read this: Serp belt swap

As for using a trucks, it won't work. The trucks passenger side bracket has the A/C compressor to high and it will hit the hood. The F-bodys bracket moves the compressor closer to the fender allowing it to sit lower.
