SAY IT AIN"T SO!
Well, I just got done installing my crate motor 350 into my 89 IROC. Everything is done so i figure its a good time to install a starter. THE FLY WHEEL IS TO BIG! I tried both types of chevy starters but the nose won't fit between the fly wheel and the bellhouseing. Its a 168 Tooth flywheel i imagine. I thought it should work tho? Give me your input, thanks.

Yep I had the same problem. Summit sells one that will work for $175!! I looked all over parts stores for one that would work but no luck.

You probably can't use the old one, but maybe you can. If your new engine has the one-piece rear main seal, then you can. If not, you'll have to buy another one. About $40 or so at Auto Zone or some such. No big deal at all.
To change it, take all the trans bell housing bolts out axcept for the 2nd one on each side; put a long (~6") bolt in the bottom one on each side; that way you can slide the trans back as far as it can go on a jack or something, without having to take it completely out. That gives you plenty of room to get to the flex plate bolts with a box-end wrench.

Or go and get the mini-starter from... errr... TommyJonesJr.com or something like that... Damn - total brain dump. If no one else knows what I'm talking about and you still want the information email me at scauffiel1@home.com and I'll dig up the info. It cost around $150 and got here in three days. Lemme know,

No luck yet. We dropped the trans to get to the flywheel and pulled it off. The motor we are swapping has the 2 piece rear main. The origional flywheel that came with the motor was actually scraping the bellhouseing when it turned. So now i'm looking for a flywheel that will fit with no luck. The only one i can find is made by B&M and will cost me a small fortune. If anyone knows of a flywheel that will fit a 700R4 with an old style motor then can you please let me know? Thanks
