In the market for a new 350
In the market for a new 350
I'm looking to buy a new 350 to replace the old one in the IROC (smoke was coming from the valve cover before with a nice SES light, so I figure it'd be good to get rid of the 100,000 mile 305).
I was looking on paceparts.com and my question is: Will the TPI fit on the universal 350 they have there? If not, which ones will it work on? I don't have that big of a budget, and just want something that will provide a decent platform (225-250hp) that can be built off of in the future.

Nobody else responded, so I'll try my $.02...
Your TPI should bolt up to the 350, as it has the '86-prior intake bolt pattern. But, it has a two-piece rear main seal, so you'll need a different flex plate (assuming your '86 is one-piece, as mine is - there's been discussion as to whether that's always true on '86's). Headers and a better flowing exhaust would have helped your 305, so consider them for your first upgrade for the 350.
It isn't a bad place to start, but just remember that this particular engine has cast dished pistons, and non-performance small valve/small port heads. To really get the most of out of it would require head and piston replacement.
