Rebuild Question
if i had my motor rebuilt and went .30 over with trw forged pistons, lt1 cam, and vortech heads, what kind of hp would i be lookin at. i have a 305tbi. i would also install a set of edelbrock tes headers. would i need a custom chip and if so, how much are they? the reason for the forged trw's is that i want to add nitrous sometime after i get my motor broken in. just something like a 100 shot or what could it handle? i would only use it for the dragstrip and the occasional street sweeper. any opinions are welcome. (please dont tell me to get a 350)
If you get it rebuilt with vortec heads and an LT1 cam, you will definatly need a custom chip to get it running good. You are also going to need a bigger TB unit or bigger injectors. Fastchip does custom chips for about $360 and I've heard good things about them.
As far as Nitrous, if you are going to add it, you might as well get some SERIOUS juice like the sportsman fogger system.. I believe it is ajustable from 100 to 300 HP and it should be ok as long as you get a higher flowing fuel pump and boost the fuel pressure.. Nitrous isn't really what kills engines, its having too much nitrous and not enough fuel. Thats why you don't just dump nitrous in your gas tank.
The fogger system is only like $100 more and it should not cost that much more to get put on (or harder to do yourself) because it goes in under the intake and you will have the engine apart for the rebuild anyway.
Since you are getting new heads, it may be a good time to get some nice roller rockers too..

definitley getting roller rockers, but i dont know about the fogger system. i really just want to get the one made for the stock l03 but i think it only goes up to 125hp. plus i can to that one myself since is just a plate between the tb and the intake. i am not going to install it right away though.would the holley 670 be good enough for a tb? also what kind of hp will he hitting the ground without the nitrous?
