383TPI Cam Question
I wuz wondering what you guys running flat-tops (10.9:1 CR) on 383's with TPI's did for a cam... (Not a Hyd Roller..)
Would the Compucam 2050 work OK? I'm running trick-flows and at least 92 octane and I want to be sure to stay out of the path of detonation... It's a stock stall, 3.42 geared 700R4 setup.
Any help appc'd

Flat. Also was clearencing the rods to cam require alot of metal removal, or does this only happen with some/big cams?

I just got a recommendation from the man I bought the 388 kit from. With flat-tops making 10.9:1 CR in a camaro, he recommended a single pattern flat hyd cam with between 230 - 234 degrees @ .050 lift and a stall around 2,500.

i helped build my buddy's 383, its in a 81 camaro, yes i know its not a 3rd gen. it has flat tops with 64 cc heads, the thing pings like crazy. it has to have close to 11:1 i think. it loves race gas. we are running the comp cams 268xtreme cam in it. right now, the car run's 8.8's in the 1/8 with 2500 stall in 3.08 posi on street tires. another buddy of mine, i know this is off the topic but another buddy of mine has a 71 firebird with a 455 and about 10.5:1 compression and he is running a 274xtreme cam, that thing is scary fast, has lost of tractions problems, it runs 8.7's right now, with an open 2.73 rear on street tires, and its being babied, it will spin tires anything below 45 mph. we are hoping for high 7's with 3.23 posi, and a good set of slicks, we will see. anyways, i dont know how i got off on this tangent, and i am sure i never actually answered a the question. hehe

I was worried about pinging. I was told I should be OK with the 64cc chambers with aluminum heads with that cam. I plan on 93/94 octane tops and a TPI setup (ported) so I can't go too crazy with cam and have to stay at 114 LSA.
