GMPP Crate 330HP w/TBI emissions legal?
Is the 330 HP GM Performance Crate Engine ($2,000+ from SDPC) emissions legal with a 454 TBI? What kind of hp/torque numbers would I expect with TBI and decent components? Tough swap? Thanks a lot, junk's in the sig...

Technically, it absolutely is not legal. For practical purposes, the biggest hurdle would be the lack of exhaust crossover passages in the heads to feed the EGR. Depending upon how big an issue that would be for your particular inspection/testing, you could find a way to feed it via a line from the exhaust manifold/header to the intake passage.
The guys on the TBI board would probably have a better answer to the rest of your questions. But, as for "tough swap", you'll need a Vortec-specific intake, and a way to mount your TBI on that intake. Otherwise, it shouldn't be hard at all.

Is that makeshift EGR passage thing possible? It'll need to pass sniffer in MA, where they're *****...I really don't want to invest $3000 in my baby and then not be able to drive the car. They're vortec heads, why would GM produce passenger car heads that aren't emissions legal? Wait, that's GM...

Vortecs came on light truck engines and are emissions legal as-delivered.
Jim Pace (I think) has a Vortec TBI kit for pickups w/TBI that's supposed to boost performance (saw the ad in the latest CHP). It uses the pipe from the exhaust to the intake. You might look into that, since you'll need a Vortec intake anyway with the 350 HO.
The other thing to do would be to drill a hole into the crossover passage in the intake, braze a fitting into the hole, and attach a pipe from the exhaust to that.

five7kid said what I intend to do when I make my swap. I am going to use some 3/8" metal fuel line and bend it to go from my header up to the intake and have a fitting welded into my header and I thought I would just drill and tap my intake next to where the egr is. Also, I think some of the Vortec manifolds like the $170 Edelbrock has an inlet for that pipe built into the manifold.

The only reason I said to braze the fitting to the intake is that I'm not sure there's enough meat there to make a good threaded connection.

like tas said in CA, no. for 2 reason that are appearent.
1) the egr passage. already been covered.
2) you wont pass the visual (assuming they ahve close to the same standard's in CA) because the camaros never came w/ a 454 in those years. In order to make a engine swap legal your car had to come with some form of the engine your putting in from the factory.

Just for the record, emissions testing is very, very gay. I hate them, and they've prevented me from getting my engine swapped just because I'm scared of not passing. Just tell them you bought the car in Texas, and that they can kiss your *** cuz you want to drive it. I hate them...
