Im swaping out a 2.8 MPFI for a LG4 305. When I bought the motor, it came with absolutley everything. It has 2 wiring harnesses. 1 that plugs up to the headlights, turn signals and all that stuff, and the second hooks to the engine and runs to the computer. I was wondering if I could leave the V6 harness connected to the lights and stuff, and use it in conjunction with the 305 engine and computer harness. So far, Ive compared the V6 lights and accesories harness to the same one for the V8 and they appear to be the same.

PS- Anyone have a V8 T5 bellhousing they want to sell me cheap?

Mike D.

If you aren't doing computer controls, you need the wires for distributor power, tach, alternator, starter, choke, oil pressure gage, temp gage, AC, wiper motor & washer, and possibly radiator fan, fuel pump (if you have electric and are keeping it) and fast idle solenoid. Some of these will be too short (like those at the front of the engine). You might be better off going to a junk yard and getting the engine harness from a V8 car, especially if you're staying CC.

I started switching out the light harness, finally figured out I didn't need to. I did have to change out the cruise harness, but that's because I basically took my '82 V6 car and made it look like the '86 V8 car under the hood and dash.

LilJayV10 thats a good question... Are you going carb, TBI or TPI? I am going TPI. Do you have a complete harness or a partial one? I have a partial harness..computer control only. I made my fuse block harness.

five7kid why did you have to change you cruise harness? You were like my hero until you said that!

The '82 had an old govenor-type unit on it, the '86 uses the ECM. Everything was different from the cables, hoses, wires, servo, button on the turn signal arm - everything. That's why. Nothing to do with V6 to V8, just the year differences.
