L98 to LS1

I have an 89 GTA Trans am with an L98 in it. I was wondering how hard it would be to swap the L98 for the LS1. Will it fit in without too much hassle?

Call your local Chevy dealer and ask if the LS1 in the performance parts catalog comes with any runing gear, like ecm, harness, and that sort of stuff. I have seen the LS1 in the G.M. Performance Parts catalog. Just stuff a G.M. crate ZZ4 motor in and it would deffinatly kick butt.

I plan on doing the same swap in my '91 RS. I'll be using a wrecked 4th gen though. It's cheap and has everything you need. I'll be switching out EVERYTHING including rearend and possibly brakes. Anything's possible, especially with a huge engine compartment.
That all aluminum LS1 will give you less weight and better gas mileage than any crate engine and still make good HP.

I won't be starting the conversion for another year or two. I'll probably use a wrecked 98 or 99 Z28 just because it's an F-body and it's cheaper than a vette. I haven't found anyone who's actually made the swap. I found a website once that had it done, but I can't find the site anymore! Doh! If you come across anything, let me know too.

The first link is old nad outdated. Hes actually an old friend of mine who had to stop hte project where it leaves off (figuring out the wiring) due to a new job committment. He was planning on farming out the rest of the work but I'm not sure what he ended up doing. I've lost contact with him so I have no idea what the current status is of his swap. If I ever find out, I will let everyone know the results.

hey guys,
make sure you use the ecm out of the Z's b/c the 'vette has way more dumb sensors. Get the motor out of either a 'vette or a Z (doesn't matter). and DO NOT get the accesory brackets out of the Z, b/c they are on the wrong side and youre current accesories wont fit properly. get the brackets out of the 'vette b/c they ARE on the proper needed side. I have done 1 LT1 swap and 1 LS1 swap so far. these rules apply to both engines.
