please help with my 350

I have been told that a sb400 would be too expensive for me to build up, so here is the current engine. tell me what you think and what should be changed. if i am speding 2400 dollars, should i choose different heads?
350 short block with 4 bolt main
GM Vortec Iron Heads
Holley 600 CFM, Silver Finish, Electric Choke
Edelbrock Performer RPM for Vortec heads
Headman Custom Shorty headers
Engine Rebuild Kit w/ 9.73:1 compression
ARP Bolt Kit
Edelbrock 14" open element air filter
Accel 8 mm plug wires
Summit Distributer:
with all the little extras this engine build came out to about 2400 dollars including all the little things like machining. if someone can put together a better engine for less than 2500, please post it. i want a 350, and at least 300 horsepower. what kind of power would this combo make with a comp cams extreme 268 cam? thanks
also, is there a way to use different heads for around the same price?

Don't waste any extra money on a 4-bolt main block. If you can get one for the same price as a 2-bolt, then that's OK, but it won't do a thing for you with the rest of that combo.

For the money, those heads are a deal, as long as you don't intend to do anything to them. The 268 is about as much cam as you can fit under them without having to disassemble them and do machine work. Once you start to do that, they are no longer economical. Use them as they are, and don't exceed tehir capabilities, they're a godd deal.

With the XE268H, that's a very common engine combo. It makes over 350 HP if properly built.

You may be able to build the motor for $2500 if there are no surprises whatsoever, then it will take a good $500 more to put it in a car. For instance, your car has a right-hand dipstick blkock; but if your 350 has a left-hand dipstick, you have to buy a pan. All sorts of things like that await you.

Combo looks great. Shop around for the best deals and you're going to love that thing when you fire it up!

One other thing you might look at is Golen's Engine Service www.golensengineservice.com . I know nothing about them and I'm not making any recommendations but they seem seem to have great prices. Maybe if you look into them you could tell me what you find out.

Oh ya, almost forgot. Don't be afraid to use a 2400 stall with that. You'll love the way your car launches and with a good tranny cooler you won't have any problems at all.
