Anyone ever had oil leak problem with one piece seal adapter?

Hi to everyone
I have a friend that his car is leaking oil from the rear main seal. We dropped the pan & switched the seal . After everything went back togther the rear main was still leaking from the seal. I notice that there's a alignment dowel on the block for the one piece to two piece rear main seal adapter . Is it possible that the alignment hole on the adapter is off by a little bit causing the seal to be pulled over to far?The wear on the original seal is on the lower half of the seal. The top of the seal had no wear on it at all (looks brand new) . Any one had this problem before? Were stumped

more than likely, you need to put a wear ring on the rear of the crank. after time, believe it or not, the rubber seal makes a groove in the crank, the wear ring is a thin piece of metal that goes over the rear of the crank, and gives the seal a new smooth surface to seal against, we use them all the time at the shop but normally for the harmonic balancer. hope this helps

My partner has a 87 350 roller block with a 400 crank. The crank is the older style 2 piece rear main seal type. So when using this crank in the newer style blocks u have to buy the 2 piece adapter seal. When we change the old seal & bolted the two halves of the adapter together on the crank there is a noticable small gap between the crank & the sealing lip of the bottom half seal. The crank shaft does not have a wear line. Are there different sizes in the rear main seal that a person could go to the parts store & ask for?
