ok. i'm swaping from a carbuerated LG4 to an lt1. and from a T-5 to a T-56. when i got the setup they both came together and a box full of wires. well i pulled them out and it was just two big sets of wires. one set had the big fuse box and looks like they all go under the hood because they are dirty. the second set looks like everything on the inside. can someone give me a clue what to do. what wires do i need, if not all? what wires do i keep from the lg4? help please
I have no clue what year engine/tranny you have but I would guess (in a wild a** fashion) that you have the underhood fuse block and ECM wiring.
If you provided more information the guys that actually have a clue would/could hook you up!
No disrespect intended.

Whatever you do, don't cut any wires until you find out.
You should have one large harness that has all the ECM's wires, which are the ones that go to sensors, injectors, etc. In a 3rd gen they are completely separate from the wires that are part of the car so to speak; the ECM harness goes into the pass compartment through the right fender well, the car's wiring is in the firewall by the brake booster. The ECM harness should have a couple of medium-size plugs where it plugs into the ECM (which you should of course also have).
You might want to just lay them out straight and see if you can identify the connectors. That's a pretty good clue to what it plugs into.

no i understand multi tasking. i read all the 93 lt1 swap posts. i just needed to get peoples attention somehow. ok. the lt1 is from a 97 z28. that's all i know. the tranny is mounted to it. with manifolds and exaust cut off about halway back. i have pictures.
l69. yes the one with the fuse box i have recognized as the one on the inside of the engine compartment. the wires kind of bend in the direction they originally went, so i might be able to figure those out, but the ones that are cleaner and look like they go on the inside should i use those to wire the inside? is there a book of wiring diagrams? i heard a "big book" mentioned quite alot.
thanks for all your help

time to get the Helms book for that specific year wiring schematics. My freshmen year in college we hastily took apart a Mustang Cobra down to the sheetmetal b/c we were building a drag car out of it. Threw all the wiring around like idiots and when it was time to get some of that crap back in the car we were high and dry. Got the Ford wiring manual on it and it was cake after that. The books I'm talking about are about 10" wide and 20" tall in size. They are basically stapled together. Very awkward. These however ARE the real deal.
so it's a big helms book. should i get it for an 87 camaro or a 97 since that is the year of my lt1? i'm just confused about the whole thing over all. what wires will i need to keep from the 87?
Well you see, the 97 engine has a lot more wiring, the fuse block you are talking about is the underhood fuse block, the harness has some stuff for the brakes and also for the air bag. I hope you have the pass-key module, (little black box with 16 contactor) hmmm. check your fuel pump, it need to be 40-55 psi.

I forgot! Don't sweat the wiring. Lot of smart people that visit this site that are more than willing to help.
While you are waiting for your Helms there are lots of things that you can do to your engine. Tune it, clean it, replace gaskets., etc.....

i'm pretty sure that i have everything needed for the wiring. i got the whole setup. does the gas tank from the 4th gens fit in the 3rd gen? becasue i got the gas tank and the pump and lines witht that. i'm switching from carbureted so i don't really have that much knowledge about fuel injection systems.
like i said i'm sure i have all the wires and everything. there are 2 harnesses that are both about 6-8 feet long. the one on the inside is actually a loop. i'm certain that everything is there. i am just ignorant when it comes to the computer aided network. if someone could explain it to me i know that i would understand it. thanks for all of your help.
another thing is that i've heard that if i got motor mounts and accessories brackets from a caprice then i don't have to modify as much as far as getting it to fit in my 3rdgen. can someone explain that to me? thanks
btw---i used to come to this board alot before it got a makeover and i'm just now starting to come back. believe me i have full confidance in the people here

As far as the mounts that attached to the engine I will use the ones from the 1994 Caprice. I read the same article that you read.

ok, so there are 2 motor mounts? one that is attached to the motor and one that is atached to the crossmember on the body of the car. i need a v8 motor mount from my 87, which i already have, but i might get poly if this is the case. and i need 94 caprice mounts that attatch to the motor.
do you think i ca take my harnesses down to the dealership to see if they can point some things out to me? they'd probably charge huh? how much would the chevy dealership charge to put an lt1 in my car?

Hi Electromaro…. You may be able to get some application from what I am doing or attempting to do. You already have V8 motor mounts (on your cross-member) that should work… I am using the 1994 Caprice mounts(bolt to engine) based on what I read on www.hpsalvage.com. I want my A/C. The reason I am using both Caprice mounts is -- I do not have V8 mounts or rather did not have.
Which harness do you need? I wanted to buy the forward lamp harness(which is only half of the engine bay harness) from the dealer but they wanted $1000.00. If you want to save some cash the cheapest solution is to do it yourself… $100.00 for a Helms and just go for it. Depending on your area you may be able to go to a junk yard and buy one… Painless offered several harnesses that have emission stuff deleted, as does Howell-EFI and TPIS. I am sure any of these companies will custom make you a harness that is emissions legal.
Regardless of what you do in the area of wiring you will need a good book or something to help you. Autozone sells Popular Mechanics -- Automotive Repair Software.. Which also has TSBs from Alldata. It is not as good as the Helms but it gets close. The one for my 89 SUCKS. But the one for the 93 has most of the stuff that is contained in the Helms. It's less than $20.00.
Last have you tried to trace the wires back to the ECM or fuse block yet? The Autozone CD may help you. For the 93 it has drawing of some of the connectors.
Hope I helped…and have not in anyway steered you wrong… (Don't worry, I have a few buddies covering my back…They will correct me on the spot).
Don't get discouraged

I am sorry I misread some of your post. By all means go and talk to the parts guy at the dealer... The folks I have been dealing with have been stella! They have a computer program running under Sun that is nice. Outstanding diagrams (not a lot of detail...but good stuff. The parts guy at the dealer I go to and I have become good friends... Everyone there knows me... I go in with parts, pictures, diagrams, whatever. They allways help me. 90% of the time I buy nothing.. Because I can't afford there prices. But that does not stop them from helping me.

I agree necome very good friends with the parts guys, they are an invaluable resorce. I can't tell you how many times my parts guy helped me out with my swap (TBI to TPI) Oh, and that computer they have is simply amzing. It's alot like the new parts catalog we just got on here.
