92 TA 305 TPI swap questions
92 TA 305 TPI swap questions
I have a 92 TA with a 305 TPI...Short block is toast...can I swap the block with a 80-84 305 (casting # 14010201) that I already have and use the heads from the 92? The 92 should have a roller setup and the 80-84 has a hyd. cam and lifters. If that won't work, can I use the 80-84 block and heads (casting #14014416) with the 92 TPI? I'm trying to get the 92 running to be my daily driver, with parts that I have on-hand, while I build a nice hi-po 383 or something for it.

Welcome to the board.
You can use the earlier short block with your heads. In fact, that is the best way to make it work, since your TPI intake won't bolt to the earlier heads without some bolt hole modifications.
Your '92 actually has hydraulic lifters, of the roller follower type. "Roller" and "hydraulic" aren't mutually exclusive. If possible, it is the best bet for your hi-po engine if you can.
