383 or 350 Shortblock with forged crank and pistons???
I was looking at getting a ZZ4 short block...but I think I would rather get a shortblock with forged pistons as well. A few questions:::
Im looking at about 400+ hp...running 12s in the quarter....and then a shot of nos....
1)Do I really need the forged pistons or can I go without them?
2)Are there any places that sell new 350 shortblocks with forged pistons and crank?
3)What about 383 shortblocks with forged pistons and crank??
**I would like to compare the price between the 2...and see if the extra cubes are worth the money.
Shortblocks come with a 12 month warranty.....and I like that....but I was also considering having a shop rebuild a 350 stroked to a 383...using forged parts that I provide
4)Do most rebuilders offer the same type of warranty?
5)Im guessing a rebuild would be cheaper?
6)Where can I get a good 383 rebuild kit?? (bearings, seals, crank, pistons, rods, etc)
I want a shortblock that will LAST a LONG time...and will hold up at the track and street. Any suggestions? Thanks

oh and btw...I will only be running about a 100hp shot of NOS....I dont want to have to mess with my timing everytime I want to shoot the nos....Im not totally convinced that I need the forged parts....but they would be nice just in case...and a definte if I decide to rebuild.

I'm in the EXACT same boat and would love to see the answers to this post, except I want about a 200 shot of n2o. My engine is pulled and the afr's and superram are waiting, but I can't make up my mind on a shortblock either.

I dont think you really need a forged crank... its a nice luxury but I dont see it being necessary where you are at. I would recommend forged pistons though, if you are like the rest of us that 100 shot wont last, it will be 125, then 150, and who knows... and 200? I wouldnt run that on cast pistons though anything is possible... I just would pick the safer route of running forged.
