79 T/A engine swap

I own a 79 T/A and I'm looking into changing the 403 to a 455. I'm curious about what kind of problems I'm going to run into with this swap. Such as transmission boltup,Exhaust matching ,motor mounts, power steering hook ups, or even if it will work. Or If there is any after market parts that will work and still be cali. legal. drop me a line if you have any info. Thanx (

it depends on what 455 you are going with. the 403 is an oldsmobile. if you go with a olds 455, everything will bolt up, all though the headers might be hard to find and install because the 455 has a taller deck height and its consideres a "big block" i use that term loosely. if you want to to with the poncho 455, you will have to change the mounts, the tranny will still bolt up since its a BOP. all the accessories will have to be changed to poncho's. i think headers are easier to find for the poncho's cause all poncho's are the same size physcially(like a 260-400 SBC is the same) a poncho 350 is the same size externally as a 455. olds and pontiac 455's are good engines. you just have to know how to play with them. i just helped a buddy of mine put a built 455 in his 71 bird. the thing is flat out scary, now all we have to do is get it to hook. it will smoke tires anything below 45 mph and it has a 2.73 gear and 275/50/15's on the back of it. there is no substitute for cubic inches, tourqe is just freakin cool.
