BBC & Tall valve covers & Wiper Motor Solution

I think I have the solution to the interference of a big block with tall valve covers (roller rockers) and the wiper motor. I was in the yard recently looking for parts and found a wiper motor in an iroc that looked different from the 2 speed or the delay version. So I grabbed it, brought it home and sure enough, it is smaller than the GM versions. It is an aftermarket wiper motor (not sure from which parts store).

I am going to install (or atleast try) this weekend.

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES, it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. I currently have 4.10 gear sets and new series 3 carriers in stock for 9 bolts )

Some offshore replacement motor maybe? I'm glad I don't have those clearance problems

Actually, it says "made in mexico". I don't care where it was made, just so it works! as I do have those problems .

Did you get your motor back together yet?

It's "supposed" to be ready tomorrow (friday 24). I'll still have to finish assembling it since it's just a long block. I won't make Sunday's race but should make it to the seasons finals in 2 weeks. Then the season is over until next May. I want to at least get a base line of how the new engine runs so I'll know how much of an improvement I'll get next year.

The machine shop recieved the wrong rings. Everything else is done except they can't assemble it without rings. I should get the engine now on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on when the rings arrive.

I'm still using the xtreme energy 294 cam. The engine builder says I should just go to a solid cam. He's going to check to see what the maximum lift I can go to with the new heads and pistons. If I can put a .650-.700 lift cam in it, I'll consider picking one up. Flat tappet is cheap but I've been watching on ebay for a roller cam and lifters.

He figures with my current setup and the new Merlin heads, I should be able to get into the 10's. I think I'll need more converter. An 8 inch that stalls around 4500.

I run a solid lifter cam. Much better than a hydraulic, but nothing like a roller The advantage for me was a solid gives more lift for the same duration as a hydraulic. I check clearances in the spring and summer. Never had a problem. Keeping the duration relatively short helps keep it streetable. Then again, so does 9:1 compression and 87 octane (which is $1.70 here!!) Yeah, like Bush and Cheney are going to do anything about that! Bunch of rich oil men Opps, sorry 'bout that.
