How do I tell if my engine is original?

Just wondering how I would find out if the engine in my 1982 Camaro Z28 is original. And where would I find the numbers on the engine to cross it?
Thanks

On the block in front of the passenger head. The s/n and the last part of the VIN is stamped there on a pad that sticks out from the head mounting surface. You'll probably have to remove some stuff (alternator) to get to it.

you can usually see the number with the alternator still on in an 82. You will most likely need to removed a layer or 2 of grease and grime.
