Best engine?

I don't think I will ever do this, but what was the most economical/powerful Corvette engine made? I am thinking it would be cool to swap a Corvette engine into my car. Any info about this would be great. the odds of me affording an engine are 1 in a billion, but as the commercial goes:
"Hey, it could happen."

Thanks for the information.

Engine: LT1
Transmission: 700r4
LS1 baby ! kick *** . I got LT1 it's good on gas and it's strong, my tires ares 265 50 15 and i'm burning tires on 1st, 2nd and drive gears with an automatic tranny without shifting it myself. I easy beat mustangs ... and i'm at 17 mpg in city, highway I don't know. lt1 is not too hard to install if you are able to find a trouble free engine. LS1 is probably the best technological and economical engine and also one of the strongest engine GM builded in regular production.

------------------
LT1 POWERED
HEADMANS HEADERS
NEARLY 300 HP.

KILLED:
98 MUSTANG GT CONV.
88-89 MUSTANG 5.0 CONV.

next mods:
crane roller rockers 1.6
lt4 hotcam kit
airfoil
58MM edelbrock trottle body
new paint (wet look blue)
17' rims with 275 zr 40 and 245 zr40

Best Corvette engine that can be easily put in a 3rd gen is the LT4. 330hp stock and fits in a 3rd gen just like an LT1. The LS1 is a nicer engine but it is a beast to install in a car that didn't come with one.

Do you mean that the LS1 engines are too big for the car, or that they have too much *****? I can see them being too powerful for the car. But, if the engine was swapped, would I need to upgrade the suspension and stuff to keep up in handling?

What do you guys think about a Dodge Viper engine/tranny? I don't know about the rearend taking the power of one of those beasts. I bet that V10 would go great in there. The 10 G's pricetag is a little much for me though. I am doubting there are any wreaked ones around here in Nebraska. I would **** a brick if I got one of those into my car. Anyone want to race?

Well, you guys are in luck, i found a site with almost everything you will need to install a Dodge Viper engine into a non-Viper car.

http://www.viperconnection.com/parts/crate.html

if our cars could even handle this power, I would be happy.

I had the idea for a Viper engine in my TA a long time ago, but have not thought much about it for a long long time. Unless you have unlimited funds, good luck. By the time you add everything up(accessories, shipping, pulling/install of engine)the engine will have cost you possibly more than $16,000 dollars. Then you have to really almost practically rebuild the car; to make the engine and tranny fit. It would be one hell of a day in the history of fabrication work. Dont get me wrong, if i could, i would've done it already.

You could probably get those hp/tq numbers with a big block chevy, and it would probably be easier/cheaper than a viper engine...plus there's people on here that have done it before and could help you out. If you still want a corvette engine, 427's once came in vetts.

Would be easiest just to get a 427 SBC from Bill Mitchel.
Yes the $7500 might be a little steep, but it will hold another 150 shot or more of juice.
