What should I do with my 327??

I recently bought a newly rebuilt 327 motor. Now I am faced with a delema. Should I put the motor in my 70 Chevelle dirt car, or should I put it in my 92 Camaro RS?? If I do put it in the RS, how much trouble would it be to go from TBI to Carb, and what kind of gas milage would it get??

why would you want to put a carb on it? Just get a single plane carb intake and put the TBI on it.

Reason number 1 to go with carb....cheaper. The TBI might get you better gas milage but as far as performance:dollar, carb wins hands down.
The problem with a 327 is that it is the opposite of a 305. The 327 has a larger bore and smaller stroke than the 305. They're very different engines and to tune a TBI to work well on a 327 is going to cost you $$$ unless you get into eprom burning (still going to cost $$$).

If Pablo can get 260HP on a ghetto budget with a 305 then this guy will do fine with some chip tuning. When you're at the pump looking a $2 at gallon, the performance dollar of a carb goes straight to shiet.

Thanks for the input guys. I know I gotta do something with my 305. It has 176000 miles on it, so gas milage now sucks pretty bad. I think I get 15-18 MPG now. So it would be kinda hard to do any worse than that. I am looking for the cheapest way to convert, and I got this motor for almost nothing. Due to some outstanding debts. So, now I ask, should I put the 327 in the Chevelle and put the 350 in the camaro that currently sits in the race car?? Thanks for all your help.

That was my first thought. Have something nobody else has. So what if it is a little work. It will be something different.

if you want to have even more fun and be real unique get this, screw the 5.7 keep the 5.3 and dont loose me here but make it a 5.0
if you remember in the 1969 z/28 camaro's they had 302cube engines. all that is is a destroked 327. take a 327 and put a 283 crank in it. dont forget to check the journals. and the main bolts.
now its unique!

The idea of putting a tbi setup on a 327 doesnt sit too well with me for a few reasons. The chip would have to be worked to get the correct fuel/air mixture, and a 327 makes ALL its power in high rpm, something tbi was Never designed for. A good carb setup is the only way to go. It will be cheaper and perform SO much better.

Unique never did anything for me. Fact is it looks like a Chevy small block and that's all anyone knows when looking at it. Second fact is all that matters is how fast it goes . So who cares if it's unique. Function over form.

As far as which car to use it comes down to what you want to accomplish. If you don't care about handling throw the engine in the Chevelle. Much easier to do and totally legal. If you want more of a sports car feel then throw it in the Camaro. I'd avoid using the Camaro unless that's really where you want to go.

Baloney. If that was true, there never would have been such a thing as a 20,000 pound GVW truck with a 327 in it.

But, there was such a thing. It's a matter of matching the pieces to produce the desired results. With proper cam and heads, a 327 TPI would be capable of surprising many a "greater" car. Ditto for TBI. Getting a chip to make it work wouldn't be that big of a deal, either.
