I'm looking to purchase a stall converter and I found a company that will build one but they said they need to know th horse power and torque of the motor. I'm not sure on the HP and TQ of my motor and was wondering if anyone could help me out. Here's what the motor has.......

standard 350, not bored.
Comp Cams 292H, 501 lift, 244 duration
Dart Pro 1 Platinum aluminum heads
200cc Intake Ports
64cc Combustion Chambers
2.020" Int/1.600" Exh Valves
1.250'' Valve Springs, 110lbs @ 1.700''
.520" Max Lift

All converters "stall"

A 292H camshaft will want a converter that stalls around 3000 for street/strip or 3500 rpm for full race. It doesn't matter what other parts are in the engine or car. The converter wants a stall speed based on the camshaft grind. All the other components need to work with the best stall speed that the cam can use.

Re: Help with HP and Torque output for stall converter build

I thought depending on how much hp and torque would depend on what the converter would actually stall. Like if I got a 3200 stall depending on power it might stall 3000 to 3400. I heard that to run at least a 3000 stall I would need to switch from my 342 rear gears to 410. Is this correct?? Should I go for a 3000 or 3200 with that cam? The car isn't a daily driver. I drive it on the weekends and nice days. I haven't taken it to the track and sure if or when I will.

Like I said, the stall speed is dependent on the camshaft grind. For optimal performance, all the rest of the components need to be matched to the engine's rpm range. The more torque an engine produces, the higher the converter will stall but it's not an infinite number. If you put a stock converter behind that camshaft, the engine probably wouldn't idle because the stall speed would be too low.

You can mix and match whatever components you want but they may not give the best performance results. The only way to know exactly what stall speed the engine wants is to put it on an engine dyno. Other than that, you do a rough estimate based on the cam grind. It has nothing to do with the rest of the car.
