89 305 tpi swap to a possible 383
I have recently begun the search for a new motor for my 89 iroc
and have stumbled upon a 350 from a 1970's Gm pickup, i am planning on boring and stroking such motor but before i headed down this path i wanted a little advice
I plan on using the tpi system from my 305, is this an easy path or should i switch to a carb
Also if i were to keep the Tpi would i be able to modify my current heads or should i find 350 heads or aftermarket (i'm not trying to race this car only add a little more kick)
Any comments help Thanks

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
'87-'92 350 heads would solve the problem. You could even use your 305 heads (same ports) if you were willing to install larger intake valves, do port clean-up, and choose pistons to keep compression reasonable.

You will be amazed at what some aftermarket heads and a cam swap will do to wake up that motor.
Your TPI system ultimately limits your RPM potential. Stock they rev very low. If you go with an aftermarket TPI and/or heavy intake porting you can get a bit more out of them but its runner length that is the real issue. If going with a carb is not a legal issue for you then it will certainly be the easier route to power.
